Our Story

Did you know that the world’s oldest soap recipe comes from the Sumerians, dating back over 5000 years? While the basic process of soap-making—boiling oils and fats with alkalis—has stayed largely unchanged, the art of shaving soap is much newer, having first emerged in the 14th century. These soaps rose in popularity until World War I, when shaving creams took over as the preferred option. But true shaving enthusiasts still cherish the luxurious experience of traditional shaving soaps.

Why Shaving Soaps Matter

A quality shaving soap is rich in vegetable or tallow fats and glycerin, which acts as a humectant to lock in moisture, soften the beard, and protect your skin. Without fats, shaving soaps can’t provide the smooth glide needed to prevent irritation or nicks. That’s why traditional shaving soaps, unlike bath soaps, offer a superior shaving experience.

Choosing the Perfect Shaving Soap

Look for soaps with a 30-50% fat content, and make sure they’re triple-milled for a rich, creamy lather. Beware of bath soaps masquerading as shaving soaps—they lack the protection your skin needs, leaving it dry and irritated.

Enter Pereira Shavery Soaps

To solve the modern shaving dilemma, we turned to our roots, rediscovering the historic recipe of our ancestor, Dr. Jonathan Pereira, a pioneer in the field of shaving soaps. We’ve modernized his time-honored formula, incorporating activated charcoal for its detoxifying and exfoliating properties. Our soaps cleanse and soften your skin, while also helping to minimize acne and clear clogged pores.
